Eleven members of the Gordon Central Future Business Leaders of America toured downtown Calhoun, learning interesting facts about the history of the community. The students interviewed business owners to investigate the responsibilities of entrepreneurship. At the Harris Arts Center, the students enjoyed seeing all of the decorated Christmas trees that are auctioned for the fundraiser for the Arts center. The students were treated to a meal provided by J.D.’s Place.

Suzanne Roland, Director of the Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Partnership and Lorene Potts, President of Mainstreet Partnership and a member of the Downtown Development Authority hosted the GCHS Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America. The businesses toured included the following stops: JD’s Place Café, Harris Art Center, Mother Nature’s Eden, Historic Ford Motor Company (Babcock Building), The Calhoun Cigar Shop, In-Focus Studio, Valerie’s, and RAK Outfitters.

This local FBLA activity is part of the Gordon Central chapter’s participation in the FBLA state project entitled Main St. FBLA. The purpose of this project is to expose members to concepts related to successful small business ownership and local entrepreneurs. Students participating in the project explore economic history of their community and ways to improve their local communities.

Participants included Johnny Baker, Lacey Dodd, Amanda Hudson, Hannah Hufstetler, Stephanie Kilpatrick, Danielle McKee, Paige Rankin, Fedai Rashed, Diana Rodriguez, Chasity Shepherd, and Catlin Townsend. Sheila Yarbrough, FBLA adviser, also participated.
