Fewer highway deaths over holiday weekend, says GSP

According to the Georgia State Patrol there were a third fewer traffic related fatalities on Georgia roads over the Christmas weekend.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

There were 12 people were killed during the 78-hour Christmas period which ended midnight Sunday. The GSP also reported that another 503 people sustained injuries in roughly 2,000 crashes.

Last week the GSP released their fatality estimates for the holiday weekend. The GSP predicted 18 people would die over the weekend. They also predicted 976 injuries.

Last year, 24 people died over the holiday weekend, which was 24 hours longer.

The State Patrol predicts 16 people will be killed in collisions over the 78-hour New Year's holiday period.
