The $5,000 grant will be used to purchase equipment for the fire department.
Chief David Hawkins says this isn’t the first year the department has received a grant from Omnova.
“They started receiving it long before I got here seven years ago,” Hawkins said.
Hawkins said that usually the department receives $3,000, but this year the foundation chose to be extra generous.
“We’ll take it; we can use it,” Hawkins said.
The department is no stranger to grant funding, Hawkins said the department received grants from the restaurant chain Fire House Subs for 22 handheld radios and a Georgia Emergency Management Grant for funding for the departments hazardous materials team.
“We can do a lot with grants like these,” Hawkins said.
The chief says the department has received so many grants as a result of the training the department has. Each employee has undergone extensive hazardous material and search and rescue recovery.
