What with One Act players, debaters, football players and other students scoring high in various competitions, almost everybody is coming to school.
Which is to say, city schools swept GRAD-sponsored monthly competition for rotating attendance bowls for the month of November.
Tops was Calhoun Elementary School, which won the GRAD-Chick-fil-A Bowl with a 97.2 percentage for the month. CES has won yearly attendance events for the past three years.
Calhoun Middle School claimed honors in its category with a 96.4 percentage, winning the GRAD-OMNOVA Solutions-sponsored bowl.
And, Calhoun High School, in the midst of watching its football Yellow Jackets vie for a state championship, was the winner in its category with a 95 percent effort.
GRAD each year encourages school attendance by presenting monthly rotating attendance bowls. Yearly winners keep the bowls permanently.
GRAD is a collaborative committee made up of representatives from The Calhoun-Gordon Council For a Literate Community, Family Connection, United Way and the city and county public school systems.
The committee also sponsors Perfect Attendance Day each school.
The program has been lauded by city schools superintendent Michele Taylor and county superintendent Bill McCown.
