An Adairsville man was killed and his passenger injured in a three-vehicle wreck in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Campbell County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 11:07 a.m. Friday when a 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by David L. Bonin, 55, of Uniontown, Ohio, was going south in the left lane and "swerved to the right," striking a 1990 Nissan 240 SX that was stopped in traffic in the right lane while authorities cleared an unrelated wreck, a THP dispatcher said.

The Nissan then rear-ended another vehicle stopped in traffic, described as a 1988 Ford F350 pickup truck driven by Scott G. Dixon, 47, of Adairsville, Ga., the report said.

The driver of the Nissan, 28-year-old Justin S. Dixon also of Adairsville, was killed in the crash, the report said. A passenger in the Nissan, 22-year-old John Right of White, Ga., was injured.

Justin Dixon was Scott Dixon's son, a THP dispatcher said.

Bonin and both occupants of the Ford were uninjured, according to the report. All the occupants of the three vehicles were wearing seatbelts, the report noted.

It wasn't immediately clear if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. The report also didn't say if charges are pending.
