Calhoun receiver Da’Rick Rogers entered Friday’s state championship game against Buford needing 75 yards to set a new single-season receiving record in Georgia.
Whether or not he surpassed the record during the game has become the source of debate.
According to Calhoun’s stats, Rogers finished with 10 catches for 81 yards. But several news outlets, including The Associated Press, reported that the Georgia commit finished with 10 catches for 69 yards, leaving him six yards shy of the record. (Current Georgia receiver Tavarres King set the record as a senior at Habersham Central in 2007).
Calhoun head coach Hal Lamb said Saturday that the confusion likely centers around a catch that Rogers made on a play that included a penalty on the Jackets.
Lamb was unsure who would eventually have the final word on the record, but said that as far as he is concerned, Rogers is now the record holder.
