ATLANTA (AP) — Parents who have fallen behind on child support payments are being encouraged to make a payment on past due balances during the holiday season.

The Georgia Department of Human Services' Division of Child Support Services is encouraging the payments during its annual Settlement Day event.

Individuals who are behind on their child support have until Dec. 8 to make a payment toward their total past due balance in addition to their regular payment. Noncustodial parents who wish to settle their past due balances can do so during the week of Dec. 7 by visiting their local child support office.

Local offices do not accept cash and there is a $1.50 transaction fee for processing each payment. Other last-minute payment options include making a payment at the department's Web site.
