Inside of their spacious home in Calhoun, the sounds of seasonal and holiday music fill the air.
Eric and Rhonda Jordon, and their two children are fo-cused on the details: unpacking homemade ornaments and photos, Spode mugs, hanging up the lights and ambiance.
“Where are we going to put the Santa photos?” asks Eric. “We’re putting them on the buffet,” answers Rhonda.
The Jordon couple has spent each year collecting photos of their 15-year-old daughter Davis and 11-year-old son Griffin with the mall Santa at Phipps Plaza.
“We have every picture with every Santa, and they’re all in the same frames,” says Rhonda. “It’s one of our favorite tradi-tions we have with our children.”
“Davis thinks at 15-years-old she’s too old,” added Eric.
But Eric and Rhonda think otherwise. They already have the photo framed, displaying 15-years-of Santa memories.
Meanwhile, their son Griffin is positioned on the living room floor sipping on a warm cup of Russian tea from a Spode holiday mug.
“I like having Russian tea at Christmas,” says Griffin.
Their miniature toy poodle Coco joins Davis, who is sitting on the sofa. She glances at the gold colored lights, which are the only splash of color lighting their nearly 8-ft. tree, which was purchased earlier that day.
She gives the dog a warm hug and, begins explaining what she likes about Christmas.
The first things that come to mind are shopping and getting gifts, explains Davis
But soon her eyes brighten.
“The Salvation Army,” she says.
“Davis loves giving and she’ll do it going in and coming out,” adds Rhonda.
Thirty minutes later, Eric finds the homemade school or-naments, and begins unpacking two boxes filled with school crafts, ranging from Santa Clause kindergarten lists to wreath decorated photo ornaments.
Finally comes the true star of the tree, Davis’s school or-nament creation: a homemade redheaded angel.
“Any ornament you buy can never replace the homemade ornaments,” says Rhonda.
“The angel is always on the top of the tree,” she adds.
As the day winds down, a new energy ripples through the room. Eric is now upstairs, and is wrapping lights around Davis’s miniature tree in her bedroom.
“We’ll probably have everything done tonight,” says Rhonda. “Once we get started we just like getting everything finished up.”
“Come by tomorrow and you’ll see the before and after,” she adds.
When it comes to transforming a home into a holiday won-derland, Santa’s elves have nothing on the Jordon family.
