On Nov. 13-14, Calhoun High debaters traveled to Fayette High School. Sophomores Lloyd Bearden and Thomas Kendrick advanced to the Varsity quarter-final round, where they dropped to the tournament’s eventual champion, Mountain Brook, from Birmingham.

Two eighth graders joined the high school ranks, when CMS debaters Ralem Eomhd and Taylor Gilbert combined for wins against two high school opponents in high school novice division.

On Nov. 14, Calhoun Middle School debated at the Crawford Long Middle School Tournament in Atlanta.

CMS Coach Tamara Whittemore took three teams to the competition: Bryant Mathis and Drew Rowell combined for a 2-2 record in Junior Varsity, and Draik Grant team with Adrian Torres for another win. Meanwhile, Allie Baldwin entered Novice competition for CMS, and was matched with a partner from Randolph Middle School. CHS student Lauren Bledsoe traveled with the middle schoolers to help judge and assist with coaching.

Next weekend the CHS debaters plan to travel to Carrollton High School, where another eight grader, Katie Marshall, is expected to make the successful jump up to high school ranks.
