According to Courtney Taylor, director of Gordon EMS, the event will be held at the Gordon Central High School Ratner Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
“We are asking all local churches to bring their congregations to the service so that we may all come together as a community for a time of prayer and remembrance,” Taylor explained. “We also hope that all of our local veterans will attend so that we may recognize them for their service.”
Gordon County native Major General William T. (Terry) Nesbitt, the Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard, will serve as the keynote speaker.
“In the midst of the holiday season, it is our goal to be that light from home for our servicemen and women, who put their lives on the line for us daily,” Taylor added. “We hope all of Gordon County and our surrounding neighbors will join us in sending a message of thanks to them and to their families.”
Candles will be given to attendees on a first come, first served basis. However, due to limited quantities, organizers are asking attendees to bring candles and lighters from home as well.
