Kentucky project events coming up
The Kentucky Project is a community effort that isn't sanctioned by any certain church or organization. It is put together by citizens of the Northwest Georgia area and is open to anyone wanting to help out another community, regardless of church affiliation.
More than 20 years ago, Ernestine Shaw of Calhoun was watching a documentary on the impoverished communities of Kentucky. The main industry in the community was coal mining. When coal was no longer needed, the communities had no income. Ernestine saw that these families were in dire need of help. Ernestine, her husband, and a few friends loaded up two pickup trucks and took groceries to Kentucky.
This act of love towards people in need is what the Kentucky Project is all about. Since December 1994, we have been collecting winter clothing, hygiene products, and toys. Monetary donations are used to purchase food boxes to deliver to the families in need. During the first weekend of December we take these donations to Cawood and Kings Creek, Ky.
