Voters will cast their ballots Tuesday to determine who will fill several city council and school board positions.

For several weeks voters have had the opportunity to vote early, but Director of the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration, Shea Hicks said early voter turnout has been slim.

As of 3:30 p.m. on Thursday Hicks had received only 120 ballots countywide. The elections office has mailed only two absentee ballots.

This is a far cry from last year’s election when the county turned out in droves to vote early, but Hicks says numbers this low are not off base.

“Those numbers are normal for this type of election,” Hicks said.

Election day is Nov. 3. Only three precincts will be open during this year’s municipal election. Calhoun residents can vote at the city recreation department on River Street. Fairmount residents will be voting at the community center on Fairmount highway, and Resaca voters will be casting their ballots at the community and recreation center on Walker Street.

Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Results will be posted live on www.gordoncounty.org and www.calhountimes.com.
