CMS boys win BGMSAA region golf tourney

The Calhoun Middle School boys’ golf team joined the ladies team as region champs at the Bartow/Gordon Middle School Athletic Assoc. (B.G.M.S.A.A) region tournament on Oct. 22 at Field’s Ferry Golf Course.

The Jackets defended their crown well as they won by 19 strokes over the closet competition by firing an impressive team score of 192.

The second place team, Sonoraville, shot a 211, followed by Ashworth at 212 and Cass at 215.

The four counting scores for the Jackets were Chandler Clements, Brody Henderson, K.J. Sturkey, and Caleb Hayes. All posted rounds of 48, which was good enough for atfour way third place tie individually.

Eighth grader Dawson Boswell, who was often the Jackets low scorer during the season, followed close behind with a round of 51.

Ashworth’s Branton Bailey had the low round of the day with a 45 and Joseph Hocieniec of Cass finished in second with a round of 46.

The Jackets finished the year with a record of 18-1 and the team is 42-1 over the past two years.

Fourth year Coach Roger Gresham would like to state he is extremely proud of the guys and congratulates them on another championship season and for the departing eighth grade men an impressive record during their three years.
