Current / past professional / business experience:

For the last eight years I have been the general manager of F&R Sales, Inc in Dalton. We are a sales company specializing in wearables and ad specialties for the corporate and school markets. Prior to that, I served as vice president of Sales and Marketing for Georgia Tees,Inc.

Clubs / organizations (including churches) and any offices held:

I am a member of First Baptist Church in Calhoun, when my children were younger I was active in RA's, and various youth activities. I am a member and past president of Calhoun Elks Lodge #1883. I have served in various capacities in many professional organizations. I also serve on the Calhoun Zoning Board.

Current / past political offices: I presently hold post 3 on the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education

What are your goals for the post for which you are running? What can you offer that the other candidates cannot? My goals would be to continue the path of excellence we have our city school system on, while being sensitive to taxpayer needs and concerns. I would like to continue to raise the graduation rate, as well as our test scores. I would also like to continue the currant policy of running our schools like a business and finding areas to cut expenses, while maintaining the high level of education we are able to offer our students.

What can I offer? Well, in addition to a passion for excellence in our schools, I can continue to bring a business perspective to our board, and the last four years of experience I have gained in school finance is invaluable. This will be even more critical in the next budget cycle. I have no axe to grind, no hidden agenda, I simply want the best for our schools, and I am willing to give the time and effort to achieve that goal. I still have a child in this system, so I have a special interest in the type of education we offer. I am also the only member of our board to grow up here and graduate from Calhoun High School. I understand the heritage of our fine school system, and the value our community places on that heritage.

Additional comments:

I have thoroughly enjoyed the last four years of service on our school board. People sometimes fail to realize the quality school system we offer our children, when compared to others in the surrounding area, and especially the state. We are constantly rated high in rankings when compared to other systems. The credit for this goes to the administrators, teachers and support personnel we have assembled, and the boards ability to let them work without interference. While we do offer guidance, we let our people do their jobs, and in my opinion, they do it well. I can say in all honesty, this is the best group of people I have ever worked with. We all bring varied opinions, but always are able to reach consensus without any infighting or animosity. We all work with one goal in mind; make Calhoun City Schools the best place on earth to educate your kids! I sincerely hope the people of Calhoun will allow me to continue in this endeavor.

What are your goals for the post for which you are running? What can you offer that the other candidates cannot?

Provide the best education for children of Calhoun. Being a senior citizen who adopted his grandchild, I can relate to the other grandparents raising their grandchildren. I believe the grandparents should have a representative on the school board who can relate to their problems.

Additional comments:

With my Air Force career I have learned how to listen to people and to solve problems. I believe the best trait is common sense and caring for others.

Current / past political offices: I served as Secretary on the Calhoun City School Board

What are your goals for the post for which you are running? What can you offer that the other candidates cannot?

Being a self-employed small businessman I think that I’m a better man to see that we grow the right way. I am fiscally conservative. I look forward to the change Calhoun has coming and I want to be part of that change, You can count on me to watch the city tax dollars and keep taxes and fees as low as possible.

Additional comments:

Calhoun City is a City of Excellence and there is a reason for it. That reason: Calhoun City looks to the future. After the recession is over in the coming months Calhoun is going to be primed with the tools that are necessary for growth and success. We have water, sewer, utilities, public safety, recreation, education, and great healthcare here in Calhoun. When you add all this up and to where we are situated on I-75 in the middle of northwest Georgia; we will be able to attract and retain industry and jobs. Calhoun is on the verge of an explosion in these developments. How is this possible? It is because the tax base of the citizens of Calhoun was pledged as assets to secure financing for our utilities and general government. If elected, I promise to have reliable and great customer service.

Additional comments:

In preparing my "volunteer" resume, a recurring emphasis emerged in the direction of my volunteer service. It is significant that I have usually served in positions where I could help people, specifically young people. The desire to do so runs very deep in the grain of my personality and beliefs. I have learned over the years not only how to provide opportunities for success for young people, but to balance the expense of those opportunities with what the organization can afford. Although my professional background is health care, education is my passion.

What are your goals for the post for which you are running? What can you offer that the other candidates cannot?

My goals in seeking election to our city council post 1 are to improve communication during city council meetings so that our city can make the necessary decisions to improve services to our townspeople. I would like to improve our leaf and limb pickup program to have designated pickups in the summer months. I would like to obtain services currently available from Calhoun-based agencies to bring those services to our area of the county on an intermittent basis and improve access to our townspeople. I would like to keep our city budget on a conservative course during these lean economic times so we can continue to provide all the services our townspeople need without increasing our tax rates.

Additional comments:

In summary, I wish to add a level-headed common sense approach to our city council issues to serve the needs of our townspeople, and I vow to hold the well-being of our city of Fairmount first and foremost as I believe anyone who seeks and holds any public office should be held to a higher standard in this regard.
