The regular monthly meeting didn't happen in Resaca, but the council instead turned it into an impromtu political forum. Because Mayor Sam Allen was out of town and Councilwoman Julia Baker was a no-show, no quorum was present.

However, three candidates for office were there -- incumbent Al Rosier, cadidate Mitch Reed and candidate Jerry Veasey.

"You have three candidates here to ask questions to," Mayor Pro-tem Jimmy Brown said.

Candidates fielded two big questions, including whether they supported a pouring license for the town.

All three candidates voiced the same opinion, that they would support the measure. Brown said he would talk to the town's attorney about the process of getting a referendum on the ballot.

The other question concerned the town's recent decision to close their police department and decision to pay $100,000 per year for a Sheriff's deputy to patrol the town for twelve hours a day.

Al Rosier, who voted to keep the original police department did not comment. Veseay said he felt the town needed more coverage. Reed told those present that he agreed with the contract on a temporary basis, but with the new parks being built and as the town grows, Resaca would eventually need its own police department.

Municipal elections are Nov. 3.

CALHOUN POLITICS as usual. First of all, the Calhoun Times can't even spell the word "quorum!" Secondly, city and county government only know its meaning when it's to their benefit (or one of their relatives.) The "qorum" was "established" like all of the others - on the phone, or in front of the courthouse the last 5 minutes before the meeting - either of which have no official recording for rebuttal purposes. Remember these "officials" were educated (through 60 per cent of your property taxes) here in Gordon County, so that accounts for why they can't spell, don't know what a quorum is (or how to spell it), and MAKE UP THE RULES AS THEY GO ALONG! Also, please don't forget that they can be held accountable to state officials through audits, ethical conduct entities, etc. THIS is the reason that industry continues to overlook Calhoun/Gordon County and any other entity that might actually make this "community" a profitable place to live FOR EVERYONE - not just the idiots that hold their noses up pretending to be something they're not and COULD NEVER MAKE IT, financially or socially, in any other area.

Re more police coverage in Resaca - they have PLENTY of existing equipment, resources, and manpower to cover Resaca without any increase of any kind from any resident any where in Gordon County!

If There was not a qurom, Then how could it be agreed to allow the Mayor Pro-tem to talk to the Town Lawyer about a proposed referendum ? To talk with the Town Lawyer cost money. Then would that not require a vote?

Also, something else to think about. Why would Resaca need more police coverage? The Sheriff department is located there? They should have the best existing coverage in the county! The contract has to be best option. It keeps them eligble for the lost tax money. More Police would be a financial burden on Resaca.
