"I would have never new this game would have ended this way," said CHS head coach Eric Rigney. "I new it was going to be a dog fight and in the first half it was. The score is really not evident of how close the game really was."
The teams battled back and fourth in the first half.
The Jackets (5-0) struck first as Jesse House scored on a 62 yard run. Brandon Blaylock hit the point after and Calhoun took the first lead with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter.
The Phoenix (4-1) tied the game with 4:12 to go in the second quarter. Chandler Curtis fought his way into the end zone on a two yard run. Curtis would run for 114 yards in the first half. Junior Solis hit the PAT to tie the game.
After halftime, the Jackets, who had been on the defensive for most of the first half, started to turn the table on Sonoraville.
The Jackets scored two touchdowns in the third quarter,
Calhoun scored using the wildcat formation when tailback Slade Dale ran to is right, pulled up before the line of scrimmage, and hit Avery Johnson on a 36 yard pass. After a Phoenix penalty, the Jackets' Alex Urbano ran in for the 2-point conversion with 5:32 left in the third.
With just under 20 seconds to go in the quarter, Calhoun scored again on a three yard run by House. Despite the blocked PAT, the Jackets held a 21-7 lead.
Calhoun added one more TD in the fourth on a 54-yard fumble recovery by Weston McArthur. House made the hit on the Sonoraville QB to cause the fumble.
