With local city and school board elections set to begin soon, many Gordon County residents who have never registered to vote, or are new to the county are scrambling to fill out voter registrations.
“We have had quite a few people come in and register,” said Director of the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration, Shea Hicks.
The time to register to vote is quickly drawing to a close; the last day of registration is Monday Oct. 5.
Voter registration forms can be obtained at the office of voter registration located inside the Gordon County Courthouse. Forms can also be obtained at the Gordon-Calhoun Public Library and at each municipality’s city hall.
Early voting will begin on Oct. 12 and will continue through Oct. 30 with the actual election day on Nov. 3.
Absentee ballots will be mailed out soon, Hicks said. To vote by mail, registered voters who do not live in Fairmount should notify the elections office by calling 706-629-7781. Those living in Fair-mount should call Fairmount 706-337-5307.
