Jeremy Stroop, Operations Manager for the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), presented the award.
According to Stroop, Shaw is responsible for one-third of all carpet collection in the nation and is the world’s largest carpet recycler.
The company was also praised for its work in innovation, post-consumer carpet reclamation and commitment to cradle to cradle design. Other nominees in the Environmental Award category included the “GreenWorks Center” by Mohawk Industries and Cycle-Tex for the company’s recycling efforts.
“Shaw is honored to have received the FloorTek Environmental Leadership Award for Evergreen,” said Rick Ramirez, Shaw’s vice president of sustainability and environmental affairs. “Since 2007, Evergreen has recycled over 200 million pounds of post-consumer carpet. Our total commitment to sustainability through innovation is reflected in the Shaw Green Edge and is evident throughout the industry, and we appreciate the recognition for our efforts.”
The FLOORTEK EXPO 2009, organized by the American Floorcovering Alliance, was hosted September 22nd - 24th at the North West Georgia Trade & Convention Center. On the first evening of the show, AFA presented the FloorTek awards, which recognized companies and individuals for their outstanding contributions to the flooring industry.
