Calhoun natives Kevin Palmer and Brian Profitt (photographed with Carol Chen Burns) defended their Men’s Division 1 Champions Title in the recently completed Fred Chen Memorial Doubles Tournament.

The duo defeated six-time finalists Gary Herd and Greg Ponitz by the score of 6-4,7-6(8-6) for the second year in a row. All other results are available online at www.E-RacquetShop.com.

Seventy players formed the 45 teams competing for top honors in six divisions of men’s, women’s and mixed doubles divisions.

The 12th annual event was held at the Dalton Golf & Country Club with proceeds from the tournament benefiting two local charities – Friendship House and the Battered Women’s Center.

Tournament sponsors included Clark, Davies & Easley Insurance, Textile and Industrial Sales, Lynch Automotive, the Wilson Company, Dalton Marine, Carol Chen Burns for Remax Communities Realty, Christian Heritage School’s Athletic Department, Advantage Sports, the Racquet Shop and Dalton Golf & Country Club.

Gary Valleriano, the Club’s USPTA Tennis Professional, directed the event. Sisters Carol Chen Burns and Gloria Chen Desrochers, and their mother, Ruth Chen, attended the tournament to meet the players and make award presentations.
