Sheriff investigating two burglaries

Gordon County deputy sheriff were dispatched to Rainbow Grocery in the Dews Pond Community During the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 4, regarding an attempted burglary. At the scene responding deputies found that someone had broken a window in an attempt to gain entry, but was unsuccessful.

A short time later, deputies were dispatched to Allen's Grocery in the Red Bud Community where they found that burglars had broken a window, entered, and had stolen cigarettes. Investigating detectives have recovered video footage depicting the persons believed to be involved in the bur-glary and are looking for a Caucasian male and female in a small black car.

In a separate incident a Gordon County Man, Mitchell William Landress, 47 of Calhoun was ar-rested on Friday morning. A deputy sheriff observed a suspicious vehicle near the scene of an at-tempted burglary. The deputy stopped the vehicle on Cardinal Road in the Dews Pond/Red Bud Community and subsequently arrested the driver. Landress has been charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, driving with a suspended license, and other traffic-related offenses. He is in the county jail pending bond proceedings.
