Phil Reeve was a 1914 graduate of Calhoun High School. He organized and coached CHS’s first football team, which he named the Yellow Jackets. He was a charter member of the Quarterback Club, a member of the school board, and a tireless supporter of Calhoun’s youth.

He was also very active in the Calhoun community as a member of Calhoun First Methodist Church, a charter member and president of the Rotary Club and a Mason.

Phil and his wife Jewell had four children, Elizabeth Reeve Dreyer, Elsie Reeve Haynes, C.P. Reeve Jr. and Lawrence Reeve.

Members of Phil Reeve’s family plan to attend the Calhoun / Dalton football game on Friday, Aug. 28, at Phil Reeve Stadium where they will be honored during pre-game festivities.

Phil Reeve should always be remembered first and foremost as a musician. He founded a group called "The Georgia Yellow Hammers" who during the 1920's sold over 70,000 records. Among the people he recorded with were the Baxter Brothers from Curryville making the Yellow Hammers one of the first integrated bands as well.
