Calhoun City Police were called to a home on Boulevard Heights when a vehicle struck a 3-year-old child just after 1p.m. on Thursday. The 3-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, suf-fered a head injury and was taken by helicopter to Erlanger Hospital, TC Thompson Children's Hospital in Chattanooga.
“He is doing fine and is as wiry as ever," said the child's father, Michael Autry.
According to Autry his son spent just 24 hours in the hospital and was released with minor injuries.
According to the police report the boy's mother, Brandy Autry, 22, was backing up her vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Durango, when she felt a “thump” and then heard her child scream. Autry exited her vehicle to find her son lying under the vehicle close to the back passenger tire.
Michael Autry explained that his wife had asked her step sister to look after the boy while she moved her vehicle.
"She took her eyes off of him for a second," Autry said.
The child was first taken to Gordon Hospital before being flown to Erlanger.
As of Monday afternoon a full police report had not been released. But the responding officer, Seth Densmore, noted that the incident did appear to be an accident.
"I appreciate [Densmore] he kept my wife calm before I got here and he kept me calm when I ar-rived. It really scared us," Autry said
