The field at Phil Reeve Stadium is in the process of getting a new makeover as Calhoun replaces the grass with new artificial turf.

“This is something we have wanted to do for a while now and our field really needed the change,” said Calhoun Football Head Coach and Athletic Director Hal Lamb. “We have had some drainage issues before and if we ever played a game on a wet night, our field was pretty much done.”

“I think our kids deserve it and the com-munity deserves it,” he added. “It’s the way of the future and a lot of schools already have it… it is the way to go.”

The renovation, which is being done by As-troTurf of Dalton, is currently taking place and should be finished in about six weeks barring good weather.

The old turf has been taken off and moved to the practice field next to the Lady Jacket softball field.

The new turf is being fully paid for by pri-vate donations and will not include any tax payer dollars. However, Lamb could not give details on who was donating and how much the field would cost.

“We are very, very excited about this op-portunity,” concluded Lamb. “This is a very big step for our football program, for this community and for our kids.”
