The Festival of Trees? She’s there . . . probably contributed two or three trees, brilliantly lighted and creatively designed.
Little Theater? She’s there, helping with sound and light.
International String Band Festival? She’s there, morning to noon and then noon until the last fiddle is fiddled, ushering, helping out.
Donna Fox, then, is an out-and-out, ever-present, accountable, eager, anxious, interested Volunteer, with an upper case V.
Because of her many and varied contributions to the Arts Center, Donna is this year’s winner of the second annual Bobbye Award, a coveted trophy given each year to the Arts Center’s Volunteer of the Year.
Board member Toni Molleson, who was last year’s winner, presented the award to Mrs. Fox at a recent meeting of the Arts Council board.
The award is named for Bobbye Harris, the well-known Calhoun-Gordon County philanthropist, contributor and all-around community citizen for whom the Harris Arts Center is named.
“If there is anything the rest of us are too old or two physically unfit or just plain too squeamish to do, that’s what you’ll find her doing,” said Mrs. Molleson in making the presentation. “She will quietly, sweetly and competently weed, mulch, sweep, lift and clean without being asked.
“I think her first love is the theater and she is an invaluable asset to this department. She ushers, works light and sound, is a set designer, stage manager and green room supplier. She is on hand for every play, concert, talent show or choral production . . . she is here working, I know, whenever she sees a need.”
Among other prizes, Mrs. Fox received a gold season pass for coming Arts Center attrac-tions.
“This is very moving to me,” Mrs. Fox said. “I love the Harris Arts Center, and I just think our community is very lucky to have such a great facility.”
