Showing signs of the current times, Warrior head coach Chad Fisher cut the camp down to three days in order to cut the cost for each camper.
The maneuver paid off well as 50 children between the ages of six and 12 turned out to participate.
“It’s a good camp and this is the biggest number for the summer we have had,” said Fisher. “With the economy the way it is, we cut prices and feel fortunate that we were able to hold a camp at Gordon Central.”
The camp focused on teaching several basic fundamentals of the game including ball handling, tackling, getting into the proper stance, catching and throwing.
However, the camp isn’t just about learning techniques.
“I hope the kids get a little enjoyment out of the game of football,” said Fisher. “I hope they learn how great this sport is and really learn something that they can carry over to their respective seasons.”
Along with his full coaching staff, Fisher had many of his players, former and present, helping out with the camp.
Two recent graduates, Justin Patterson and Mark Rhinehart, returned to help out with the camp.
Current players helping with the camp included Chad Childers, Keyton Thomas, Blake Hilley, Tyler Flemming, Eric Parker, Nigel Curtis, Will Swain, Zack West, Zack Taylor, Dillon Blaylock, Lance Wiemer, Tyler Bellew, Dillon Rogers, Jared Nolan, Zane Cooper, Trever Dutton, Brandon Price, Cody Davenport, Josh Daum, Nathan Wright, Nick Beeves, David Anderson, Jordon Carder and Caleb Stansel.
