With two Resaca Town Council members absent, business was reduced to the Mayor’s update at the town’s regular meeting Tuesday.

Mayor Pro Tem Jimmy Brown and Council member Al Rosier did not show up at Tuesday's meeting after walking out of a special called meeting last Thursday.

“They cordially invite any resident or the media to come by and talk to them,” resident Jerry Veasey said.

“Well, they are cordially invited to attend the meetings, too,” resident Missy Green replied.

Mayor Samuel Allen said he is talking to the town’s attorney, Gandy Vaughn, about what the council, or the residents can do.

“We’re being held hostage by the people voted into office,” said George Kirkland. “If I don’t show up for my job, I get reprimanded.”

The town’s charter calls for three members plus the Mayor or Mayor Pro-Tem to be present in order for there to be a quorum. B

rown and Rosier left Thursday’s meeting after it became apparent that the council would vote to close the Resaca Police Department.

“We’re looking at what we can do,” said Allen said. “But whatever we do, it’s going to be done right. It’s going to be done legally.”

Without a quorum, Tuesday’s meting lasted less than 10 minutes.
