Sonoraville High School will share in $150,000 of grant funds from the Georgia Appalachian Center for Higher Education (GACHE) at North Georgia College and State University.

The grants were announced today by GACHE officials.

SHS is one of 25 North Georgia schools tht will share in the grant program.

The grants will provide schools with resources to enable them to continue to increase their graduation and college-going rates.

These schools have developed strategies to assist and encourage students to finish high school and attend college.

“We are excited that so many school principals, graduation coaches, counselors, and superintendents are willing to step up and ensure that students graduate ready for college with real postsecondary choices," said Shirley Davis, Director of the Georgia Appalachian Center for Higher Education.

"We know that the economic consequences of leaving high school without a diploma are harsh and, in today’s world, stopping short of postsecondary education is equally grim. We want every student to graduate from high school and have college as a viable option!," Davis said.

GACHE will present each school a “clearing-house” style check along with a “real” check in the fall.
