Detectives from the Gordon County Sheriff’s Drug Task Force Unit arrested four people on State Route 53 East Thursday, May 14, around 3:45 p.m. for a variety of drug-related charges.

The arrests took place near Calhoun and stemmed from a controlled automobile stop.

One of the suspects fled on foot into the vicinity of the County Department of Transportation of-fice, and a deputy was injured in the chase. This deputy was taken to Gordon Hospital where he was treated and referred for further medical treatment. Law enforcement officers arrested the fleeing suspect without incident.

A search of the automobile resulted in the discovery of several ounces of suspected metham-phetamine. The other three defendants were taken into custody without resistance. The persons arrested were: Tracy Jean Lumpkin, 36, Calhoun; Donna Teresa Bowling, 50, Adairsville; Cecil Eugene Parker, 60, of Resaca; and Ralph James Colston, 35, of Adairsville.

All four defendants were charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and other drug-related charges. Colston was also charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Officers from the Calhoun Police Special Operations Unit assisted in the investigation and the ar-rests. All four defendants remain in the Gordon County Jail pending bond proceedings.

In an unrelated incident, sheriff’s detectives are also investigating the report of an armed robbery at Rugs International which occurred at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday morning, May 16. An employee reported that two unidentified Latino males entered the business and robbed him at gun-point.

The robbery involved an undisclosed amount of cash, and the perpetrators left the employee bound hand and foot with plastic ties. Detectives canvassed the area and broadcast a “look out” without result. State troopers from Post 43 assisted in the search for the perpetrators.

Anyone having any information concerning this event should call the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division.
