A team of Calhoun City School teachers has won the SSTAGE Star Award for Promising Practices at the System Level.

Tonya Reeves-Turner, Lesley Harrison, Kathy Parker-Adams and Mana Smith have earned the SSTAGE Star Award and will be recognized at the organization's upcoming conference.

In making this decision, the SSTAGE Board visiting team considered the following characteristics of effective Pyramid of Intervention practices:

— Effective systematic problem solving process at each Tier.

— Coordinated system of instructional/behavioral supports/resources.

—Coordinated system of assessment and progress monitoring

—Job-embedded professional learning and ongoing teacher supports

—A systematic plan for parent/family communication and involvement.

“Your implementation of these components has brought you to the forefront of RTI in Georgia. Thank you for your innovative practices in meeting the needs of all students,” said Dr. Paula Freer, SSTAGE President. “Your enthusiasm, team collaboration, and dedication are an inspiration to help guide educational leaders across the state of Georgia.”

The Calhoun City team will present a workshop at the upcoming SSTAGE conference on Sept. 15-16. They will also receive their award during the September conference.
