During the 2013 Georgia Emergency Communication conference in Athens, Georgia awards were given during the annual Awards Banquet.

The Leadership in Service Award is given to an individual employed within a Communications Center in recognition of their outstanding service and dedication to the agency. The award was presented to Angie Gillman, Sergeant, Tactical Dispatch Team Commander and CAD Manager for Gordon County E9-1-1.

Sgt. Gillman joined the staff at Gordon County E9-1-1 in January 2000. Since that time she has worked her way up the chain to become a Sergeant (Supervisor) of a shift, was appointed Tactical Dispatch Commander in 2005 and remains in that position today, and took on the task of CAD Manager in 2010 for the department.

Angie has successfully added to the department’s goal of being the best by taking on these roles and dealing with them to the best of her ability. She may work as Supervisor on a 12 hour shift today, and then tonight be called into the EOC to head up the Tactical Dispatch Team. All without complaint. Her shift and her Tactical Dispatch Team members look up to her and hold her in high regard for the direction she leads them.

After becoming the department’s CAD manager, Angie learned more about the CAD than she ever dreamed she would need to know. After a recent upgrade which resulted in several long term problems, she was able to deal directly with the technicians and learn to speak on their level to resolve the problems.

Sgt. Gillman also deals directly with the county GIS department and Intrado on addressing and keeping up with property annexed into the city. She works very closely with GIS to make sure the county's maps are the most current available.

Award recipients are chosen from a slate of nominees from around the state. Nominations were sent to the Florida NENA chapter who review the nominations and make recommendations as to the winners. Having another chapter review the nominations removes any chance of favoritism or loss of objectivity; so that everyone can be assured that the winning nominations were considered and awarded to the most deserving nominee.

Georgia Emergency Communication Conference is a joint effort to bring together the resources of the Georgia Chapters of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO) and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), the two largest and most powerful organizations dedicated to the improvement and advancement of public safety communication in the world to the people of Georgia.
