A Gordon County man made an attempt to elude police officers while allegedly drinking and driving; after a brief disappearance he was later caught.

Justin Wade Seale, 23, was charged with D.U.I, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, failure to stop for a red light, driving with no headlights, driving on the wrong side of the road, reckless driving, fleeing/attempting to elude, taillight requirements.

On Monday, March 3 between the hours of 10:47 p.m. and 11:44 p.m. Calhoun Police Officer Tanner was on patrol observing traffic from a stationary position in the area of Redbud Road at Curtis Parkway.

According to an incident report from the Calhoun Police Department, Tanner observed a black Ford Escape traveling west on Redbud Road at a high rate of speed and then turn onto Curtis Parkway squealing tires.

Tanner attempted to stop the vehicle but the SUV increased its speed and continued south on Curtis Parkway. The vehicle failed to stop at the red light at Curtis Parkway and Line St. and continued at a high rate of speed crossing into the opposite lane numerous times, according to Tanner.

He informed dispatch he was involved in a vehicle pursuit. Therefore, additional officers were called in to assist.

Tanner said, the SUV’s lights were cut off in the area of Professional Court. Tanner continued to follow the vehicle until he lost visual sight in the area around Peter St., and other officers in the area of Highway 53 and Curtis Parkway advised they had no visual contact of the vehicle.

The officers began to search the surrounding area and CPD Officer Cuprowski found the matching SUV backed up beside a building on Curtis Parkway.

“The vehicle was warm to the touch and no one was found inside,” Tanner wrote in the incident report. “The tag was ran and it came back to Justin Seale.”

The officers began to search the area until they observed a male and female walking down Peters St. The male was identified at Seale, the owner of the black SUV.

Seale was taken into custody and brought to the area of the abandoned vehicle. After questioning Seale he never admitted to driving the vehicle or any of the other charges, but Tanner did say he smelled alcohol on Seale while he was in questioning.

According to Tanner, the suspects’ stories changed several times while being questioned, and it was allegedly admitted that Seale was driving the SUV.

Seale was placed under arrest and read implied consent and then transported to the Gordon hospital for blood and urine samples.

Seale was then transported to the Gordon County Jail without incident. He was booked into the jail on Monday, March 4 at 1:23 a.m. and released later that day.
