This year Calhoun Health Care Center (formerly Cherokee Nursing Home) has been named one of the top nursing homes in Georgia. Only 17 percent of the more than 350 Georgia nursing homes, attain a “5 STAR” ranking. This list is compiled using quality measures and indicators, as well as facility surveys, staffing and quality measures as reported by Centers for Medicare Services. Calhoun Health Care has received a “5 STAR” ranking for overall quality also from CMS.
Calhoun Health Care Center is one of the earliest long term care facilities still located in its original building in operation. Calhoun Health Care Center was built in 1951 and was originally called “Cherokee Acres Restorum.” It began with seven beds in a one wing structure. Throughout the years it changed ownership, was renamed “Cherokee Nursing Home” and received many additions to reach its current 100 skilled bed status. In 1995 Blue Ridge Nursing Homes, Inc. of Tucker, Ga. Purchased the facility and renamed the facility “Calhoun Health Care Center.” The facility and grounds have undergone numerous improvemts and renovations since 1995. The center provides a wide ranged of care and services such as skilled nursing, physically therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, hospice care, respite care, wound care, IV therapy, and short term rehabilitation programs.
