Rise up for Tornado Relief Charity Run The (JROTC) students of Sonoraville High School are hosting a 5k run/walk on the Sonoraville School campus this Saturday as a recovery effort for those impacted by the January 30 tornado. A registration fee of $5 is all that is required to enter the run, with all proceeds going to tornado relief in Gordon County. Dona-tions are accepted. JROTC students encourage everyone in the community to come out and walk or run for the event. Participants may also opt to register not later than 8 am on March 2, 2013. Please make checks payable to SHS JROTC. Each participant must have a signed Release Form, and a parent or guardian must sign for a participant who is less than 18 years of age.
Low Cost Spay and Neuter Day sponsored by Echota Pet Advocacy and the Helping Animals in Gordon County Organization will be on Saturday, March 2. They are accepting the first 20 females and the first 40 males for $10, and rabies included if needed. Drop off pets at 11 a.m. at “The Dog House” beside Pokey’s. Do not feed the pet on that morning. Additional instruc-tions will be given at drop off.
Do you want to learn to play chess, sharpen your skills, or match wits with a worthy adver-sary? Come to Calhoun - Gordon County Library on the first Saturday of every month (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Everyone is welcome, regardless of the level of expertise. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent. If you have your own chess board, please bring it. A benefit for Bryan Steele will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 5 p.m. at the old Oostanula community center. The benefit is to help pay medical bills.
