On January 30, Chris Broyles showed up for work at the Daiki Plant in Adairsville like he had done for the last 12-years.

He never imagined he would spend the rest of the morning seeking shelter in a bathroom as an EF3 tornado smashed into the building, nearly leveling it.

“It happened pretty quick,” said Broyles, a Resaca resident. “We were sitting talking, and they gave a warning for us all to come up there. Then somebody came in and said ‘Everybody get down, its here. The pressure dropped, my eardrums sort of popped and there was a big whining sound. The building shook and it was over with.”

Some of his coworkers sustained injuries, but Broyles was fine. In the aftermath, the building was quite nearly destroyed. As the company went about figuring out how to move forward, Broyles and his coworkers were temporarily laid off. He’s been drawing unemployment until a new building is erected.

“I heard they will rebuild it all; I’ve heard they want to save part,” he said. “We don’t really know, but it will be a while.”

Rather than sitting around doing nothing with his unexpected free time, Broyles decided to get busy helping. In the past, Broyles had designed decals for friends and he thought he could use his design talent to give back to the community. So he came up with a design and decal that could be sold with the proceeds going to those impacted by the tornado in both Gordon and Bartow Counties.

“I thought it was something good to put money back for people in Adairsville and Gordon County. He dropped off his first batch of decals at Northside Bank in Adairsville on Friday. To purchase a decal contact Chris at broyleschris@comcast.net.
