In addition to the performance of GODSPELL, CHS took two musical numbers for evaluation by nationally acclaimed judges. Students performed numbers from the Broadway shows SHREK and LEGALLY BLONDE and both received superior rankings. The number from SHREK was selected to perform for the prestigious Final Showcase at the close of the three day conference, representing the best of state individual event performances.
Also selected for the showcase was Taylor Gilbert, a junior at Calhoun High School who presented a marketing and publicity plan for the production of GODSPELL. Taylor was the only technical IE of the conference to receive straight superior rankings from all judges.
While at the conference auditions were held for the 2014 All-State musical, IN THE HEIGHTS. Three students were selected for the honor of participating in the All-state musical and will work for the next year and a half on this production. They are David Husk, Geanna Funes and Rachel Green, all sophomores at CHS. Ms. Green will be performing the lead role of Vanessa. All three of these students were members of the 2013 Opening Number cast that performed for the opening of the conference.
CHS senior C.J. Nesbit and sophomore Husk, presented an acting scene from OF MICE AND MEN that received superior and excellent rankings. Sophomore Kate James impressed judges with her first set design for the production of COMEDY OF ERRORS and received a ranking of good.
