William was born October 25, 1935 in Gordon County, son of the late Starlin William Medlin and Syble Childers Medlin, he grew up in the Sugar Valley community and had attended the Sugar Valley Methodist Church. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Gordon Hospital and had formerly been employed by Echota Cotton Mill and later by Mt. Vernon Mills.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Medlin, a brother, Max Medlin and a son Billy Medlin.
Survivors include one son; Ricky Medlin and his wife Brenda of Calhoun, one daughter; Sandra Johnston and her husband Russ of Silver Creek, his daughter in law; Rita Medlin of Rome as well as several grandchildren also survive.
