Police say a Calhoun man, who was high on drugs and stark naked, broke into and ransacked a woman’s house on Creekview Drive around lunchtime February 8.

The Calhoun Police Department arrested Lamont Eric Weatherby, 39, of Calhoun and charged him with burglary in the first degree (forced entry), obstruction of an officer and public indecency after he was found naked in a nearby camper-trailer.

Police were alerted to the alleged burglary when the victim, who was not identified, came home to find her house plundered. That was not all she found.

“He came from the direction of her bedroom, looked at her, put his finger up to his lips, made a ‘shhh’ noise and ran out the front door,” arresting officer Jason Stargell said in his incident report.

Stargell arrived on the scene and noticed that jewelry and miscellaneous items were wrapped up in a washcloth. There were also items thrown across the floor and drawers were pulled out. Authorities also found wet clothing that did not belong to the victim.

An eye witness who was installing cable at a nearby residence told authorities he noticed a white male running naked from an apartment. He said the naked man continued running to the end of the apartments and eventually into the woods. Assisting officers helped search the area while officers Stargell and Densmore noticed the front door of an empty camper-trailer was open.

The officers entered the abandoned camper where they found Weatherby in the far back room and immediately ordered him to put his hands up and turn around. Weatherby complied without resistance, reports said, and the officers apprehended the naked Weatherby.

Weatherby told authorities he was doing “speedballs”— a drug combination — early that day with someone and was “going crazy.” He also told them there was a rope in the woods where he was planning to hang himself until some kids saw him and he ran off.

Densmore called for an EMS unit and Weatherby said he did not want medical attention and would kill himself if the officers took off his handcuffs.

The paramedics told the officers Weatherby needed medical attention and would have to be transported to the emergency room, so the ambulance followed the officers to Gordon Hospital, according to police reports.

Weatherby refused to get out of the car when they first arrived at the hospital but he eventually complied and sat in a wheelchair provided by the ER staff, where he was then covered with a blanket and gown.

“The suspect became belligerent and started cursing as we entered the ER. He then got up from the chair. I grabbed his gown and he pulled away from me and he started to run naked in the ER,” Stargell said. “I caught the suspect a few steps into the run and tackled him to the floor. The suspect had to be restrained to a hospital bed to receive treatment.”

The hospital staff told the officers Weatherby had amphetamines in his system and needed to be evaluated for the next 24 hours to make sure he was safe to transport to jail without further reactions to the drugs. Weatherby told authorities that he broke into the apartment because he was wet and cold.

“(He) started looking around the apartment for medication and any items he could take with him, until the victim arrived at home and surprised him,” Stargell said.

Weatherby then told authorities he makes his own meth and must have made a bad batch because it made him go crazy.

“He continued to state that he wanted to die and did not want my help,” Stargell said.

By the time Stargell’s shift ended the suspect was still under evaluation and was waiting to be cleared for transportation, so Stargell returned Weatherby’s pants, shoes, flashlight and a piece of a phone charger.

The suspect is housed for the CPD in the Gordon County Jail.
