Richard was born on August 7, 1947 in Gordon County. He was the son of the late Jack and Cleo Thompson Davis. Richard attended the Higher Praise Church of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: grandparents, Jody and Toni Davis and Elijay and Lily Thompson; mother-in-law, Malvia Gilley; father-in-law, Thurman Roberts; brother-in-law, Herman Stafford; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Survivors include: his wife, Vivian R. Davis of the home; one daughter, Carmen Hayes of Calhoun; one sister, Brenda Stafford of Chatsworth; two grandsons, Jody Slaughter and Alan Slaughter; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Slaughter and Allison Slaughter; mother-in-law, Emma Roberts of Pine Chapel; special niece and nephew, Jennifer, Wes and Regan Keerce; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. Special friend, Jacky Bright also survives.
Funeral Services were conducted on Thursday, February 14 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Billy Tatum and Reverend Jimmy Hogan officiating. Burial followed in Sardis Cemetery.
Pallbearers included: Larry Gilley, Brad Bargo, Wes Keerce, Ryan Acree, John Davis, Sam Bright and Stacey Bright.
The family received friends on Wednesday, February 13 from 5 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
