The Gordon County Young Farmers was recently named Chapter of the year at the Georgia Young Farmers Convention in Athens, Ga., where many FFA and Young Farmer members walked away with scholarships and leadership positions.

Gordon County Young Farmers Officers are Kevin Smith - President, Kevin Walraven - Vice President, Secretary - Christy McCown, Treasurer - Sue Hite, Public Relations - Lee Crump, and Past President - Sam Payne. Gordon County Young Farmers Advisor - Trish Williams

Also at the convention, University of Georgia student and Sonoraville High School graduate, Elizabeth Arnold was named Georgia Young Farmers Association Young Agriculture Professional State Winner. Elizabeth won $500 towards her travel to the National Young Farmers Convention in San Antonio, Texas where she will compete at the National Level.

Elizabeth is currently majoring in agriculture education at UGA. She is a member of the Gordon County Young Farmers, Advisor Trish Williams. Elizabeth is the daughter of Robert and Judith Arnold.

Gordon Central students Gibson Priest and Timothy Hubbard were awarded Terrell Weeks Memorial Scholarship from the Georgia Young Farmers Association in the amount of $1000 each. Timothy and Gibson are students at Gordon Central High School, Members of Gordon Central FFA and Gordon County Young Farmers. FFA advisor Melissa Hubbard and Young Farmers Advisor Trish Williams

Lee Crump was named Georgia Young Farmers Association Outstanding Member at the Georgia Young Farmers Convention where he was chosen out of 52 members nominated by each of their local young farmer chapters for his outstanding service to agriculture education, the agricultural industry and his volunteer efforts at both the local and state level. Lee is a member of the Gordon County Young Farmers, Advisor Trish Williams.

The Gordon County Young Farmers placed 3rd in the chapter display competition and Kevin Walraven was installed as a North Region Junior Director on the Georgia Young Farmers Executive Board. Kevin is a member of the Gordon County Young Farmers.

Also, Carla Payne completed her term as State Young Farmers President and will serve as Past President on the Georgia Young Farmers Executive Board. Carla is a member of the Gordon County Young Farmers.
