UPDATE

Gordon County Schools will be closed tomorrow due to a power outage at all Sonoraville Schools, according to Gordon County Schools Superintendent Bill McCown.

"North Georgia Power is working diligently to restore power; however, they have told me that power will not be restored before tomorrow afternoon to (Sonoraville schools)," McCown said in an email.

McCown said that Red Bud students riding bus 99-2, Knight Road route were not transported home immediately after school due to storm damage on the roadways. The students remained at the school as of 3:15 p.m. 

"We will attempt to transport all other students," McCown said. "Students that could not be delivered home will be returned to school.

Parents should expect delays, McCown said. Due to the power outage, phones are not working.

"Additionally, after school activities for tomorrow, January 31st are cancelled," McCown said.

UPDATE FOR CALHOUN CITY SCHOOLS:

Cancellations for Calhoun Schools:

City Schools will have KEEP services.

CES:  Chorus practice cancelled.

CMS:  JV Girls basketball postponed until Thursday at 4:30 p.m.  CMS Varsity Girls postponed until 5:30 p.m. on Friday.  Varsity Boys postponed until Friday at 8 p.m.  Debate cancelled.  Soccer practice cancelled.  Tennis practice cancelled.

CHS:  No cancellations.  Coaches will notify students of practice cancellations.

Power is out at Sonoraville Middle, Elementary and High Schools, according to Gordon County Superintendent Bill McCown.

"North Georgia informed me that the power will not be restored today," McCown said in an email. "They will give me an update about the likelihood of having power restored by tomorrow sometime later this afternoon."

Additionally, McCown said: "All of our children are safe. Until we have an assessment of the condition of the roads, we cannot confirm dismissal time. The goal is to dismiss on time. Schools should be prepared to keep students after hours and to receive children back if they cannot be delivered home by bus. Parents should expect delays.



Elementary Schools should plan to operate the after-school program.



All after-school activities are cancelled."

Gordon County Schools' Superintendent Bill McCown confirmed that no schools within Gordon County were damaged by today's storms. McCown said that county schools will adjourn at normal times today, but he indicated that after-school transportation could be delayed because of area storms. He informed teachers to prepare for delays. If schools are closed early or delays are certain, the public will be notified. Information about Calhoun City Schools is forthcoming.
