Alton loved helping people. He was an avid racing fan, enjoying NASCAR, drag racing, and racing go-carts.
Survivors include his mother and father, Lucille and Renes Smith of the residence; and aunts and uncles, Donnie and Aileen Smith of Rome, Johnny and Faye Smith of Taylorsville, Earl and Janie Smith of Rome, Elizabeth Darling of Calhoun, Robert and Martha Smith of Rome, Martha and Doc White of Rome, Marvin Smith of Rome, Ricky Smith of Rome, Kathy and Walter Bradshaw of Shannon, Ernest Randolph of Adairsville, Vernon Smith of Adairsville, Stella and Buddy Leonard of Adairsville, Ben and Janice Chastain of Jasper, Mary and Kenneth Taylor of Calhoun, and Clara and Ronnie Scott of Calhoun. A special friend, Bruce of Rome, and other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Alton Smith will be held Friday, January 11 at 2 p.m. from the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church on the Kingston Highway, with Pastor Jacky Culberson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers include Johnny Smith, Marvin Smith, Jerry Easterwood, Michael Smith, Robert Smith, and Keith Easterwood. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Smith and Donnie Smith.
Alton’s body will lie in state at his residence at 8 Taylorsville Road SE, Aragon, GA 30104 beginning Wednesday, January 9 at 4 p.m. until time to depart to the church on Friday.
