BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The northbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Birmingham are still closed while crews clean up the mess left when a fuel tanker overturned.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/ZprBgw ) that the accident occurred at around 7:30 CST Friday. State transportation officials said Saturday morning that the highway's southbound lanes have reopened near the 3rd Avenue South on-ramp, but not northbound.

Birmingham Fire Marshal C.W. Mardis said the truck driver was taken to UAB hospital. A woman in another vehicle was also injured.

Mardis said a truck owned by Dalton based Spirit Express, LLC, was carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel and suffered "a small rupture." He said Friday night that officials were cleaning up the fuel.

Authorities required some motorists to leave their vehicles on the interstate as the spill was contained.
