“Mohawk has been a valuable community partner since United Way of Gordon County began is 1986,” says Director of United Way, Vickie Spence. “Mohawk has been one of the stabling forces for United Way of Gordon County. Even in the worst of economic times Mohawk employees stepped up to help.”
Mohawk does not limit their contribution to employees only. They have consistently donated to United Way of Gordon County from the Mohawk Foundation. Along with their annual United Way contribution, Mohawk sponsors two important fund raising events for United Way.
For the past 19 years Mohawk has sponsored the Unity Run which serves as the kick-off event for the annual fund raising campaign. Mohawk and Georgia Bank and Trust are the only sponsors of the run that have been sponsors all 19 years. Mohawk was the first sponsor to pay to be on the front of the Unity Run t-shirt, and by their endorsement more major corporations have followed their lead.
Last year the front of the shirt sponsorships generated $12,000.00 from the 6 sponsors to go toward the 2013 Campaign.
Far and away the most successful single fund raising event ever held in Gordon County was Mohawk Presents Calhoun’s Dancing with the Stars last March. This event grossed over $106,000 with approximately $40,000 each going the Calhoun GEM Theatre and United Way of Gordon County after event expenses.
Once again Mohawk stepped up to support the community and has agreed to be the presenting sponsor the 2013 event this year.
“United Way of Gordon County is led by an all volunteer board of directors who work to raise funds for Gordon County to assist families, children, the disabled and those who have immediate needs,” Board President Todd Harrison explained. “Your dollars stay in Gordon County working to help our community.”
So far the United Way’s goal is $550,000 and have so far reached 60 percent of that goal. All donations are tax deductible. To donate on behalf of a business, send donations to United Way of Gordon County P.O. Box 486 Calhoun, GA 30703.
