Through Superior Court proceedings, the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office has acquired two motorcycles which have been converted into law enforcement patrol motorcycles, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

“Although the standard law enforcement motorcycles are usually Harley-Davidson or BMW, the cost to the taxpayers for these motorcycles was nothing, making this a very cost effective measure,” said Sheriff Mitch Ralston. “It will allow us to be more diverse in our patrol techniques, and more effective in making our community safer.”

The first motorcycle was condemned by the Superior Court, following a traffic stop near Dews Pond Rd. in March 2012, and the second was purchased using condemned monies.

The driver of the seized motorcycle was arrested after methamphetamine and several thousand dollars of cash used in drug transactions, was discovered on the bike.

Johnny Martin with “USA Cycles,” helped convert the bikes which were used on patrol in late October and will be used in the future for patrolling special events, escorts and patrolling neighborhoods. Two deputies who have already undergone motor officer training were assigned to the new bikes.
