Once laughed when someone said aloud, "You know, ignorance was born in Gordon County"

Comments here, that's not as far fetched as once thought.

Our hopes and prayers for young Dawson on a complete and speedy recovery!

The current level of taxation will not provide the infrastructure for transition to a bicycle/pedestrian society from the current fossil fuel based automobile one. Must tax the wealthy! Forward!!!

The concealed-carry, you-CAN’T-HAVE-my gun folks are generally more responsible about everything, including driving than the general public.

The automobile is responsible for more deaths than the private ownership of firearms as provided under the Second Amendment of the Constitution and upheld by the Supreme Court as recently as 2008. These automobiles certainly are dangerous! It’s about time we as a nation have a conversation about the regulation of these dangerous planet and people-killers.

Whatever the details of this tragic incident, “walking in the roadway” at night “with” traffic is most unadvisable. But again, blessing for Dawson and his family!

Istill...you want us to pay taxes to walk on the streets where we live but yet I bet you are one of the "you ain't agitting my gun" people that has allowed thousands of innocent people to be murdered over the past 200 years. You, and people like you are why this country is so screwed up, as a kid I walked streets and roads all over the city and county was nearly hit once on my bike traveling less than 100 yards from a neighbors because the fool driving was doing 60 and didnt have the decency to move just a few feet to the left.

This child is a friend of my sons.It seems as human beings you would show empathy for this child and his parents and not try to place blame on the parents or child.Accidents happen and I'm sure his parents wish they would have never let him walk.He is very sick and I know a lot of adults and children are very worried about him and are praying for a full recovery....instead of placing blame I'm sure your thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated instead.

I am not placing blame here.I'm truely sorry for this young man's condition.Although I feel it would be worse for something similiar to happen again. As for bluescreens "insane" response, you and yours should pay for the privledge of riding/walking on public roads in the form of tags, license, etc. We all have paid for public bike/walking trails. So keep your word and use them.If not please remember to stay as far right as you can and understand when someone takes their well being over yours in dangerous traffic situations like hills, curves, darkness and busy intersections, etc.

I've already paid for the privilege to use the public road in the form of TAXES. I can walk or bike on them any dang time I please. What kind of bonehead are you to say a license should be needed to WALK? The reason walking or biking on the road is so dangerous is people like you who think those roads are just for cars.

What are the laws city, county and state that apply here ? Where should people be walking or riding bicycles? Should they walk with or against traffic ? Is it correct to do so day or night? What are sidewalks, crosswalks, and walking/bike trails for? Should any vehicle driven/riden on public streets and highways be required to be licensed, insured and tagged?Just curious to know if I am the only person who has issues with pedestrians in the streets waliking and or on bicycles. I personally think its stupid and dangerous.

If I remember correctly from the Drivers Manual, people walking on the side of the road, as well as cyclist doing the same, are considered pedestrian. They are to stay as far to the right of the road as possible, and flow with traffic. Cyclists are treated as a vehicle and are required to have headlights and tail lights for night operation (and bright clothing if they're smart), and operation of a bike on the sidewalk is illegal and dangerous. They (pedestrians in general) are also to be given due respect by automobile operators. If it is safe to do so, you (car driver) move as far to the left as possible, then you pass them. If it is not safe, then you stay behind them and wait until it is safe to pass. Period.

One thing you seem to be forgetting is that automobile drivers are not the only ones who pay taxes on these roads. If you would like to fork over more of your hard earned money to pay for more (and expensive) walking and riding trails, I would be more than happy to use them. Until then, follow the state law and give me my three feet on the side of the road!

istillwantequalrights inane comment not withstanding, I must add that most of the drivers in Gordon County are some of the most courteous drivers out there. I've walked and ridden these roads for years with very few problems. Thank you.

We all know that automobiles, bikes, and walking are all deadly. All should be illegal except walking and then only around the yard at your home, apt., condo, or patch of woods you live in. If we make these illegal like we did with alcohol, drugs, and hopefully guns then these problems will disappear like they have in Gordon County.

Was so sorry to hear about this accident for both parties. I have to drive home after dark and i have noticed a lot of young people walking in the roads and with clothing on that is hard to see and some of them won't move over to the side. It's as if they are daring someone to hit them. Thing is it may be out of the driver's hands if they top a hill or a sharp curve and cannot see them. Please parent's, don't let your kids walk the roads at night.
