Carolyn was born in Bartow County, on April 14, 1945 daughter of the late Alton and Ruth Brannon Griffin and was a graduate of Fairmount High School and received her degree from Rhinehart College in Waleska, Ga. After college she went to work at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and later was employed by the Gordon County Office of Tax Commissioner and retired from the Gordon County Board of Education in 2004. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children Larry Stanfield in 1998, and by her second husband, Kenneth Ponder in 2008.
Carolyn is survived by one daughter, Kristi LaRae Stanfield of Calhoun and one son, Keith Stanfield of Calhoun. Two grandsons, Matthew and Wyatt Stanfield and by two brothers, Danny Griffin and his wife Johnnie of Pace, Fla., and Eddie Griffin and his wife Susan of Fairmount. Nieces and nephews; Holly Griffin, Joe Griffin, Jennifer Holden, Jennifer Holden, Lucretia Cantrell, Emily Stanfield, Megan Stephens and Nathan Gay. Special friends; Mary Jo Risley, Sue Lewis and Ellie Pinson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Stanfield Ponder will be conducted Wednesday November 21, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Eddie Brannon officiating. Music will be arranged by Donna Stanfield Gay. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include; Jerry Balliew, Ronnie Childers, Donnie Childers, Shane Hall, Jason Ponder and Steve Brannon. Honorary pallbearers will be the ladies of the “Old Dog’s Club”.
