The Gordon County Saddle Club (GCSC) recently held a benefit trail ride at the Chickamauga Battlefield in Fort Oglethorpe to support fundraising efforts of Friends of New Echota (FONE).

FONE plans to recreate the historic Indian Blood Cling Peach orchard, which will be planted this coming winter at the Boudinot House area of New Echota State Historic Site in Calhoun.

Along with participating rider donations, a customized oil painting of an Indian Blood Cling Peach, was presented to FONE past President, Donna Myers, PhD, to further assist with fundraising.

A locally talented artist and friend of the GCSC, Caitlin Brown, who was unable to join in the fundraiser trail ride, created the donated oil painting on canvas of an Indian Blood Cling peach donated to Myers.

Additionally, a former GCSC member Richard Cranner of Calhoun donated a custom frame, accompanying the painting.

Friends of New Echota is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization operating as a chapter of Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. Their goals are to assist New Echota’s site manager with various projects, including planning, organizing, and implementing special events and promoting public awareness and support of and involvement in New Echota State Historic Site. FONE meets quarterly at New Echota on the fourth Thursday in January, April, July, and October at 6:30 pm. Everyone is invited to attend. For further information, find FONE on Facebook or visit their website at www.friendsofnewechota.org.

The GCSC meets the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the N.W. Ga. Experimental Station located in Calhoun. Everyone is welcome to attend. For future club events and trail rides visit the GCSC website at www.gordoncountysaddleclub.com.
