Partnering with CASA and PCA Gordon is the CTAE Skills USA Program at Calhoun High School, Calhoun Home Depot, Gordon Building Supply, and Dalton Wholesale Floors.
The Calhoun High School students involved with the project knew two things when they began: they had to work quickly on a tight schedule and they were going to make a child very happy.
In October, students in the CHS carpentry class began designing and building the child’s playhouse.
Drafting students designed and printed the raffle tickets. Other CHS students have also been involved in the project.
All materials for the CASA Playhouse were donated by Calhoun Home Depot, Gordon Building Supply and Calhoun Wholesale Floors.
The 8 X 8 foot playhouse is scheduled to be on display in downtown Calhoun in front of Beth and Company, from November 14 through December 14.
The playhouse will be awarded to the lucky holder of the winning ticket to be drawn on Friday, December 14, 2012.
The Gordon County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program utilizes trained community volunteers. CASA volunteers are central to fulfilling society’s most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child’s right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect and to learn and grow in the safe embrace of a loving family.
The lives and well being of children are hanging in the balance. Every child who cannot live safely at home should have a CASA volunteer who will help ensure their safe passage out of foster care, to the benefit of their children, and generations to come.
Prevent Child Abuse Gordon is a non-profit agency located at 411 Edmond Street, Calhoun, Ga. The mission of the agency is the prevention of child abuse in all its forms: physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect.
