There’s not a whole lot on the line as far as postseason implications when Calhoun visits Chattooga on Friday to finish out the regular season.

But that’s not what the Jackets are going to play like.

Calhoun coach Hal Lamb and the defending Class AA state champion Jackets, who clinched their 12th straight region title last Friday with a 35-0 win over Model, visit Summerville looking to not break stride as they prepare for another postseason run.

“We want to go up there and play well,” said Lamb. “I would call this a trap game for us because we’ve already clinched the region so we can’t go up there not focused.

“I think it’s very important to play well against Chattooga and have momentum going into the playoffs.”

Even with the No. 1 seed in hand for the playoffs, Lamb said there wouldn’t be anything done differently to prepare for this game.

“We are going to treat it as a normal game week,” said Lamb. “We’re going to go out this week and practice hard for three days and prepare for Chattooga. Nothing is going to be different.”

Calhoun (9-0, 6-0) comes into the game at Little Big Horn after three straight dominant efforts, which have included explosive plays by the offense and three straight shutouts for the defense.

This past Friday against Model, the running game took the lead as Alex Urbano rushed for 155 yards and 2 TDs. Quarterback Taylor Lamb added 63 yards and a TD on the ground to go along with his 162 yards passing.

Hal Lamb said winning region titles like his team did last Friday never gets old.

“It’s an awesome feeling to win one, but 12 in a row is amazing,” said Lamb. “I give credit to these kids and the kids that came before them. It’s been a good ride, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of the community, administration and the coaches.”

Chattooga (2-7, 2-4) comes into the game on the opposite end of the spectrum, struggling through their worst season since the late 1990s so they will be looking to end their year on a high note and will have nothing to lose when the Jackets roll into Little Big Horn. The Indians only two wins this season came against Armuchee and Murray County.

“Chattooga has had a tough year, but any time you play them you can count on it that they are going to play hard and have a lot of speed,” said Lamb.

“They’ve had some bad luck this year, but they haven’t quit. A couple weeks ago they gave Pepperell a really good game so we’ve got to go in there focused and with the right frame of mind.”

Calhoun, who owns a 20-14-2 advantage in the all-time series against Chattooga, would wrap up their fourth straight undefeated regular season with a win on Friday.

Prediction:

The Jackets don’t have much left to prove in the regular season, but they’ll still want to go into Chattooga on Friday and make sure everyone knows what’s coming once the playoffs begin next week.

Those that say there won’t be much motivation for Calhoun in this game don’t know how Coach Lamb does things. He’ll find something for his team to rally around.

It could be the chance for the defense to put up four straight shutouts or the offense continuing it’s trend of 35 or more points which they’ve scored in every game so far.

Whatever it is, Calhoun will be ready to play. And that’s bad news for a Chattooga squad that has struggled mightily in 2012.
