It was a softball season filled with excitement in Gordon County with Calhoun, Sonoraville and Gordon Central all having memorable moments and clutch performances throughout the fall. The Calhoun Times is honoring the best in the County

with the All-County Super Seven, Team of the Year and Coach of the Year Awards as well as Honorable Mention.

Calhoun's Shanta McDaniel is being named MVP for her efforts this season.

McDaniel was the most consistent and dangerous hitter in a lineup filled with pop. The senior batted cleanup and finished with a .471 average, six home runs, 34 RBIs, 10 doubles and three triples to help Calhoun to their first region title since 2008. She also scored 28 runs and drew 11 walks to go along with a .756 slugging percentage. McDaniel did all that while also being the backstop for the Lady Jackets pitching staff where she displayed great defense and a tremendously strong arm.
